Best Puerto Rican Coffee Brands (and How to Choose Yours)
We compare the Puerto Rican coffee brands you can buy today—Yaucono, Café Rico, Crema, Oro, Adjuntas, Mami, Del Patio, Cibales and 100% Puerto Rican coffees—to help you choose by taste and brewing method.
Ask a Puerto Rican which is the best Puerto Rican coffee and you've started an after-dinner debate. Every family has its brand, usually the same one grandma used, and defends it with pride. And that's fine: the best coffee is the one you love.
What we can do is help you understand the differences. This guide covers the island's coffee regions, what the labels actually mean, and how the Puerto Rican coffee brands we carry compare, so you can choose with confidence or try something new.
Puerto Rico's coffee regions
Puerto Rican coffee grows in the central mountain range and the western highlands, where altitude, rain and shade produce a smooth bean with bright acidity. Towns like Yauco, Lares, Adjuntas, Jayuya, Utuado, Las Marías and Maricao have long coffee histories, and several brand names come straight from them.
In the 19th century, the island's coffee was among the most prized in Europe. Production is much smaller today, which is why coffee grown 100% in Puerto Rico is scarcer and pricier than blends.
How to read a Puerto Rican coffee label
- "100% puro" means the bag contains only coffee, with no other ingredients. On its own, it does not mean all the beans were grown on the island.
- "100% de Puerto Rico" or "100% puertorriqueño" means the beans are locally grown. If that matters to you, look for it on the bag.
Also check the roast (light, medium or dark), the format (ground, whole bean or instant) and the size (4 oz to try, 8 or 14 oz for daily use).

For those who prefer a rounder, less bitter cup, in its easy-to-spot yellow bag. Order Café Crema 14 oz or the 4 oz bag.
Café Oro de Puerto Rico
